Urge Rivian to support Gen 1 owners for missing features
The Issue
Rivian pre-rrder holders and Gen 1 owners have served Rivian well as early adopters willing to cope with the growing pains of a new car brand. We believe in RJ's mission.
As a proud pre-order supporter and owner of a first-generation Rivian vehicle, I have always been excited about the innovation that Rivian promised. When I first invested in my Rivian Gen 1 model, Rivian's committed promise of autonomous level 3 driving features was a key aspect of my purchase commitment.
These promised autonomous features have not been delivered.
Many of us Gen 1 owners feel left behind as newer models receive updates and advancements that were originally promised to us. It's disheartening not just as a consumer, but as someone who believed in Rivian's mission and futuristic vision.
We understand that technological challenges occur. A retrofit doesn't appear possible. But Rivian has a responsibility toward its loyal customers who took a leap of faith during its early days.
Therefore, we are calling on Rivian to offer concrete incentives or benefits to Gen 1 owners who have been impacted by the absence of the Level 3 autonomous features Rivian advertised to pre-order and other Gen 1 buyers on Rivian's website and in other materials. Concrete benefits could include:
- Discounts or incentives on future Rivian purchases or free Autonomous+ subscriptions on future Rivian upgrades.
- A trade-in bonus for our existing Gen 1 Rivian's to make up for lost resale value.
- At a minimum, a commitment by Rivian to continue enhancing Driver+ features and usability for Gen 1 - given these features are widely reviewed to lag behind the Level 2 performance availabe on many legacy ICE vehicles.
By addressing this issue, Rivian can rebuild trust and show appreciation for the community that supported it from the beginning. Most of all, it is my hope that pro-active action by Rivian keeps dollars in the hands of Rivian and its loyal customers and out of the hands of class action lawyers or regulators that are sure to scrutinize Rivian's prior advertising of Level 3 features.
Let's urge Rivian to listen to its core supporters and take meaningful steps forward.
