The Issue

As a concerned citizen of Richmond, Indiana, I'm deeply troubled by the prevalent human rights issues affecting marginalized groups in our community. These vulnerable communities suffer from a great violation of their basic human rights, and currently, there's no platform where these concerns can be articulated and addressed.

Richmond, like many American cities, is home to a multitude of cultures, religions, and ethnicities. This diversity is our strength, but we have noticed an alarming trend - a growing population of marginalized groups who feel their rights are not valued as they should be.

The defunding and discontinuation of the Human Rights Commission has deprived Richmond of a critical platform that once amplified the voices of these disenfranchised communities - lent them a chance to be heard, to fight for change. The absence of such a body is a grave disservice to the democratic values Richmond is built on.

By reinstating the Human Rights Commission, Richmond city officials can reaffirm their commitment to ensure that every resident, regardless of their background, can live with dignity and enjoy all the rights they are entitled to. It would act as a vital bridge between the city authorities and the citizens they serve - fostering an atmosphere of understanding, respect, and unity.

We ask city officials of Richmond, Indiana to uphold the fundamental ideals of democracy and human rights. Reinstating the Human Rights Commission would be a significant step in demonstrating such a commitment. Please consider the implications on our most vulnerable residents and act on this appeal.

Sign this petition to urge Richmond's city officials to reinstate the Human Rights Commission.
