The Republican supermajority of the Missouri State Legislature continues to disrespect its constituents in its most recent attempt to block our attempts for abortion rights through HJR 73, which, if passed, would place Amendment 3 back on the ballot for the next election with completely changed wording. It would limit abortion rights to basic exceptions of medical emergency, rape, or incest, and also prohibit medical gender affirming care for minors. Missourians knew exactly what they voted for in the last election, and it is evident that we want to protect a woman’s right to choose; unfortunately, our state legislature continues to deny the people's will in its actions. By signing this petition, you would urge the bill’s sponsor, Representative Ed Lewis from the Missouri District 006, to withdraw the bill and essentially kill it, allowing Amendment 3 to stand strong in the Missouri Constitution.

According to the World Health Organization, 45% of abortions are unsafe. This means that out of the 73 million that take place worldwide each year, about 33 million risk harm or even death to the woman undergoing one. This does not mean abortion should be banned—it just shows that globally, the need for abortion care is dire. Missouri banning abortion would not stop abortions, it would merely stop safe abortions, causing more harm than good.
