The Issue

As a parent, I've watched my daughter battle addiction and place her life back on track. She is now four years into her recovery, thanks to the support she received from a state program. She found not only recovery but a purpose - she now works at a recovery center, guiding others struggling with addiction towards a new, productive life. She, like many others she helps, is on probation. I strongly believe that everyone deserves a chance to recover.

President Trump has made incredible strides in ridding our streets of drugs. However, the work is not over. We need to ensure that those in recovery, particularly our probationers and fellow citizens, are supported and equipped to reintegrate into society as productive citizens. We urge President Trump, our Senators, and Representatives to Federally fund recovery programs at state and local levels.

According to National Institute on Drug Abuse, "Every dollar invested in addiction treatment programs yields a return of between $4 and $7 in reduced drug-related crime, criminal justice costs, and theft. When savings related to healthcare are included, total savings can exceed costs by a ratio of 12 to 1." (NIDA, 2018). Therefore, investing in recovery programs is not just morally right - it's fiscally responsible.

We implore our leaders to fund these much-needed recovery programs. Let us give everyone the opportunity to bounce back and contribute positively to our society. Please sign this petition to support those on the path to recovery.
