The Issue

As a concerned taxpayer, I am deeply troubled by the current plan to provide internet access to 16,000 Americans living in North Carolina for $82 million dollars. This equates to an exorbitant cost of $5125 per person. In contrast, SpaceX’s StarLink offers a far more cost-effective solution at just $600 per person.

The digital divide is a pressing issue that needs addressing, but it must be done in a manner that respects the hard-earned money of American taxpayers. The current plan not only puts an unnecessary burden on our economy but also fails to leverage innovative solutions available in our market today.

SpaceX's StarLink is not only cheaper but also provides high-speed broadband internet across the globe, even reaching locations where access was previously unreliable or unavailable. It represents modern technology's potential and aligns with our nation's goal of promoting innovation and efficiency.

By opting for this alternative, we could save approximately $76 million - funds that could be redirected towards other critical areas such as healthcare or education. This decision would reflect responsible fiscal management while still addressing the need for widespread internet accessibility.

We urge President Biden and his administration to reconsider their decision and choose SpaceX’s StarLink over the existing $82 million dollar plan. Please sign this petition if you believe in efficient use of taxpayer money while bridging the digital divide.
