Urge Perth & Kinross Council to build an ambitious PH2O facility

Urge Perth & Kinross Council to build an ambitious PH2O facility
The Issue
As a former employee of the company that operates Perth Leisure Pool, I have seen firsthand the significant impact this facility has on locals, visitors, and businesses in the city.
On the 4th of September, Perth & Kinross Council made the decision to replace the highly popular Perth Leisure Pool & Dewars Centre with a new leisure facility at Thimblerow Car Park. Unfortunately, this proposal lacks the ambition necessary for Perth’s future, and it risks undermining city centre trade and tourism. This decision is woefully short-sighted.
Perth Leisure Pool has been much more than just a pool; it has served as a vital community hub, enriching lives both locally and nationally while driving footfall to local businesses. For over 30 years, it has provided recreational opportunities as well as economic benefits for the city.
The new facility fails to include the key features needed to attract visitors, potentially leading to a significant drop in foot traffic and a negative impact on the city’s vibrancy and economy. Over 70% of leisure centres in the UK are reported to contribute to their local economies, with visitors spending in nearby businesses. The UK leisure industry as a whole generates over £200 billion in revenue and wider economic benefits.
Perth & Kinross Council must reconsider this decision.
The future of Perth’s community spirit, economy, and appeal are at stake. This isn’t just about replacing a pool & ice rink; it’s about safeguarding & improving the vibrancy and future of our city.
Help by signing this petition and let’s advocate for a facility that reflects Perth’s aspirations and positively contributes to our social and economic fabric.
Perth deserves better!
Thank you!
