Urge Parliament to Insist on a Bypass for Winterbourne Stoke Village

The Issue

The villagers of Winterbourne Stoke, Wiltshire have long suffered from the woes of heavy traffic. The recent cancellation of the National Highways Stonehenge to Berwick Down Scheme by the current Labour government has exacerbated this concern. No alternative solution has been proposed to bypass Winterbourne Stoke and stop rat-running through local villages; particularly for Shrewton, Larkhill, Durrington, Chitterne and Berwick St James.

The millions of visitors heading to the West Country on the A303 every year must be removed from the villages around the Stonehenge World Heritage Site to restore peace, and protect the local environment and safety of residents.

We are not campaigning for any particular solution, but we do want a solution that best serves the needs of our village and those surrounding us.  We believe that this will require innovation, critical thinking and a desire to get things done quickly.

Parliament's involvement is critical to ensure that the Winterbourne Stoke bypass issue is resolved. Debating this matter in parliament ensures that the concerns of Winterbourne Stoke residents are heard, and the best solution can be found.

Constructing a bypass around the village of Winterbourne Stoke would not only improve the quality of life for residents in the whole area but also reduce travel times and costs for travelers to the West Country; improving economic prospects and helping the occupants of the 28,000 vehicles who use this stretch daily.

Therefore, we are urging parliament to take this matter into serious consideration. Your signature can make a significant contribution in making our community safer and more livable. Please add your support to our call to action, urging Parliament to revisit the issue of a bypass for Winterbourne Stoke. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Sign this petition today.
