Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February of 2022, countless American companies made the choice to stop operating in Russia for ethical reasons. However, Mondelez International is still operating and therefore paying taxes in Russia. Those taxes fund Putin’s war machine that is killing civilians in Ukraine and sending thousands of Russians and Ukrainians to the battlefield. The company that is best known for many beloved brands like Oreos, Ritz Crackers, Honey Graham Crackers needs to fully withdraw from the Russian market to restore its reputation and show real commitment to ethical practices that it claims to adhere to on its website. The company’s code of conduct states “We believe strongly in our responsibility to create a meaningful, lasting and positive impact for people and our planet.” The best way the company can put this into practice is to exit the Russian market and stop paying taxes there. Otherwise, it will be hard for American consumers to continue purchasing your products knowing that profits have higher value to this company than human lives.
