Thank you for signing our petition regarding the OCDSB Elementary Program Review. While we didn't achieve our desired outcome, your support made an impact in this important advocacy effort.
Unfortunately, the OCDSB trustees approved the Elementary Program Review despite our collective concerns. There is one partial victory: trustees voted against closing 26 Specialized Program Classes. However, we remain concerned as Trustee Scott has already indicated her intention to reopen this matter for discussion.
We find it particularly troubling that this major reform was approved without proper financial planning. The board has proceeded with an uncosted plan even as it faces an investigation by the Ministry regarding repeated budget deficits.
Moving Forward
Though unsuccessful in stopping the approval, our petition raised critical awareness about these issues and united communities to create a foundation for continued advocacy.
This isn't over. We're continuing to advocate for:
- Proper exemption processes to prevent students from being forced out of their schools
- Genuine representation of Alternative school tenets in all schools
- Preservation of Specialized Program Classes and resources that meet the diverse needs of students
