Almost 700 signatures for town halls!

We are nearing 700 signatures on our town halls petition! Thank you for joining us by signing. The May congressional recess was last week, and yet no in-person town halls were scheduled by our members of Congress.

We’re building momentum to urge in-person town halls. Can you ask a North Dakotan friend to sign the petition today?

We’ll continue asking our representatives to hold in-person town halls until they schedule them regularly. We know North Dakotans have questions and concerns about federal actions, like the recent cuts to Health and Human Services (HHS).

HHS Cuts Impact Tribal Nations

Buffalo’s Fire, a Native-led news site reporting on Indigenous communities in North Dakota, reported on a May 14 Senate oversight hearing that examined federal programs serving Native Americans.

Janet Alkire, chairwoman for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe at Fort Yates, ND, testified about how HHS benefits tribal communities and how recent federal cuts have impacted them. 

From Chairwoman Alkire: “Without Tribal Consultation, Tribal Nations have already incurred significant harm, including the abrupt cancellation of no less than $6 million in grants from various HHS agencies — jeopardizing the sustainability of health and public health systems in Indian Country.”

Federal action—like cuts to HHS—are impacting North Dakotans right now. Those impacted by federal cuts to programs deserve to be heard directly by our representatives.
