Urge NJ Transit to Order More Trains for the River Line!
The Issue
This petition is born out of my personal experiences of riding the NJ Transit River Line Light Rail on multiple occasions. Clear as day, the existing 19 Stadler Diesel Multiple Unit railcars are insufficient to cater for the ever-increasing passenger footfall. With the upcoming inauguration of the Glassboro-Camden Line branch, we must urge NJ Transit to procure at least 27 additional trains from renowned manufacturers such as Stadler and Alstom to efficiently manage the expected surge in commuters. And this would be a good time to do so now more than ever since on of the railcars was destroyed by a falling tree.
In the early stages, the River Line surpassed all expectations, with the ridership greatly exceeding initial estimates when it first opened in March of 2004. A further improvement was completed in 2013 when Pennsauken Transit Center was opened, creating a connection between the River Line Light Rail and The Atlantic City Commuter Rail Line as well as a bus route. Despite not being a regular commuter on the River Line myself, I believe it is vital to press for the improvements the River Line deserves, but does not currently showcase.
Unfortunately, a lack of sufficient railcars adversely affects service efficiency and commuter satisfaction. It is an undeniable fact that more trains will greatly enhance the regularity and reliability of the service, providing a much-needed respite to the thousands of New Jerseyans depending on it daily.
Lend your voices to cause a positive change. Urge NJ Transit to improve the River Line experience for all by ordering more trains. It is your right as commuters, and it is essential for the growth and development of your beloved New Jersey. Sign this petition now!
