Making it official on NZ Parliament website

Kia ora supporters, I have applied to start an official petition through the New Zealand parliament website.

This will give our petition as much weight as possible because the signatures are verified and kept on record officially. 

In the meantime, I still invite people to sign and share this petition, I will attempt to contact/notify everyone who has signed once the official petition goes live, to ask them to sign that too. I will also collect signatures in person but cannot copy signatures from Change.org to add to my parliamentary petition. 

To do this, it has to request a specific action, so the following is what I have requested:

Petitioner Name – Michaela Hulse

Title – Make a legal commitment and action plan to uphold the Paris Climate Agreement

Request – That the House of Representatives create an action plan to meet New Zealand’s commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement, and legislate the requirement for any future governments to uphold this.

Reason – I am mum to two precious tamariki. I am standing up to protect their futures and their right to live in a safe and thriving ecosystem. While I acknowledge there are costs and inconveniences involved in implementing the Paris agreement, these are nothing compared to the potential costs and risks of a rapidly warming climate. I believe it is my duty as a citizen to hold my government accountable to uphold our part of the Paris Agreement.
