The Issue

As a concerned American citizen, I am deeply troubled by the current state of media reporting in our country. Having witnessed a noticeable decline in trust within our media landscape, fueled by distorted narratives and misinformation, I feel compelled to call for change. It is crucial that news networks uphold a standard of honesty and transparency, rather than succumbing to the pressures of political influence. A hefty portion of contention in this country is squarely due to the divisiveness and manipulation in and of our media.

The American people — whether they identify as far left, far right, somewhere in the middle, or have no political affiliation at all — deserve news that delivers a factual, unbiased account of events. When media outlets shape narratives to fit political agendas, they do a grave disservice to their audience and undermine our democracy. According to a 2020 Gallup Poll, trust in the media hit an all-time low, with only 9% of Americans expressing a great deal of confidence in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly. This staggering reality necessitates immediate, reparative action.

I call upon major network news stations to take a strong stance against misinformation and prioritize the dissemination of truthful and unbiased news. This involves holding their journalists and editors to the highest ethical standards, investing in fact-checking departments, and promoting diverse viewpoints to offer balanced perspectives, as well as refuting false news claims submitted otherwise.

By taking this stand, we can begin rebuilding public trust in our media and demand that it once again function as a cornerstone of a healthy democracy. It also sends a clear message to politicians and wealthy power‑brokers that their influence and money cannot be used to distort the truth or undermine the institutions that hold this country together. I’m asking you to join me in calling on these networks to uphold ethical, transparent journalism. The future of our democracy relies on it.

Please sign this petition to demand honesty and integrity in journalism. Together, we can insist on the truth and protect the bedrock of our democracy.
