Urge Mubi to refuse Sequoia investment and boycott Israel

The Issue

We call on Mubi to end its relationship with Sequoia Capital and commit to a full boycott of Israel, in light of the firm’s direct involvement in funding Israel’s genocidal military campaign and illegal settlement of Palestine.

In May 2025, as reported by the Financial Times, Mubi raised a $100 million investment from Sequoia Capital. Sequoia has pumped substantial capital into Israeli companies, most notably Kela, founded by former Israeli military intelligence veterans and described on Sequoia's website as designed to  "leverage Israel’s unique cadre of technowarriors to help defend the Western world order.”

Film Workers for Palestine, along with over 60 filmmakers and creatives,  have condemned Mubi’s decision to partner with Sequoia in an open letter, denouncing the company's complicity in “genocide-profiteering”. The funding agreement means that our art, our labour and our subscriptions will launder money tied to war, occupation and the ongoing massacre of Palestinians.

In its response to the open letter, Mubi issued a statement including misleading claims and outright lies, as dissected by Paul Biggar in his article for Tech for Palestine. As an investment partner, Sequoia has a board seat at MUBI, giving them real power over the company's choices. https://updates.techforpalestine.org/fact-checking-mubi-regarding-sequoia-investment/

We explicitly call for the following:

1. For Mubi to return the invested money and commit to refuse any future funding by Sequoia or any other companies directly or indirectly tied to Israel;

2. For Mubi to commit to a cultural boycott of Israel and publicly call out Israel's genocidal actions in Gaza and its apartheid, settler-colonial regime that has been murdering and displacing Palestinians for decades.

Should Mubi refuse to abide by our demands, we call for all Mubi users to cancel their subscriptions, and for filmmakers to refuse deals with Mubi in an organised boycott. By signing, we hold Mubi accountable to the values it claims to stand for and call on it to act in solidarity with Palestine and all oppressed peoples. 🍉
