The tragic incident at the KC Chiefs rally on February 14th is a stark reminder of the urgent need for effective gun control in Missouri. This is not an isolated incident, but a reflection of the ongoing crisis we face due to lax gun laws. In 2021, Governor Mike Parson signed HB 85 into law, establishing the Second Amendment Preservation Act in our state. Furthermore, in 2017 he approved legislation allowing individuals to carry concealed firearms in public without requiring a background check or permit.

These policies have contributed to an environment where guns are too easily accessible, leading to increased risk and harm for our communities. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Missouri has one of the highest rates of firearm deaths per capita in America.

We cannot stand by while our friends and neighbors are put at risk. We call upon Governor Parson to acknowledge this crisis and implement comprehensive gun control measures that prioritize public safety over unrestricted access to firearms. Enough is enough! It's time for change – it's time for action that goes beyond thoughts and prayers.
