Urge Mercedes to Extend Support for its Small Electric Vehicles

Urge Mercedes to Extend Support for its Small Electric Vehicles

The Issue

I am the proud owner of a Smart Fortwo EQ - a small electric vehicle that, in an era where big cities increasingly limit car use, offers the best and most sustainable option. This is more than just a vehicle to me; it’s part of my contribution to a cleaner, greener world.

What troubles me, and many other owners, is Mercedes' short support span for these compact electric vehicles. The mobile connection support for cars, even as young as 2 years old have completely been ceased. This effectively limits the functionality, planning and overall benefits of an otherwise revolutionary vehicle.

In accordance with data from the European Environment Agency, the transport sector was responsible for about 25% of Europe's total greenhouse gas emissions in 2019. Small electric city vehicles like the Smart Fortwo and Forfour EQ could significantly contribute to reducing these figures if adequately supported and promoted. Especially as a sustainable used car option.

Thus, we implore Mercedes/Daimler not to discard this essential product line. Instead, we ask for an extended support period of up to 15 years, acknowledging that while it might not be the most profitable segment, it helps advance the crucial cause of sustainability. With such one sided decisions, Mercedes/Daimler is ruining long years of successful reputation building in the area of a more sustainable city transportation.

Finally, we need Mercedes to reconsider its decision, uphold its commitments to sustainability, and play its part in transitioning to a greener future. Please sign this petition to ensure Mercedes and Daimler hears our call and extends their support to their smaller electric vehicles.
