For those of us who do not work conventional hours, the ability to shop at unorthodox hours is not just a luxury - it's a necessity. Our local economies and American workers rely heavily on this flexibility in the retail sector. Especially in this age where many employees work graveyard shifts or odd hours, 24-hour stores like Meijer and Walmart are critical lifelines. They enable us to manage our work-lives while still meeting our domestic responsibilities efficiently and stress-free.

However, many of these stores have restricted their operational hours, causing major inconveniences for a significant proportion of the population. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics approx. 15 million Americans perform shift work, including overnight hours, which is around 10% of the labor force [source: BLS].
