Urge Mayor Bowser & City Council to Close DC PUBLIC SCHOOL During Hazardous Snow Condition

The Issue

I am a resident of District of Columbia, and I recently experienced a personal incident that has led me to raise this concern. While commuting, I slipped on ice and suffered from pain due to the fall. This incident made me realize the potential danger that our children are exposed to while traveling to school during hazardous snow conditions.

First off, my condolences to Dewayne

Testimony: “Rip Dewayne mckinnon alfonso jr, he slipped and fell while crossing the street be of the ice and as he was falling, a metro bus came and ran him over, please close all schools tmr in honor for dewayne since he lost his life in the streets of dc, the mayor should have done a better job at cleaning up the icy roads. Thank you”

In District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), thousands of students commute daily, often walking or using public transportation. When it snows heavily, these journeys can become perilous due to icy roads and sidewalks. According to data from the National Safety Council, falls account for more than 800,000 hospitalizations each year in the United States; many are due to icy conditions.

The safety of our children should be paramount. We must urge our Mayor and City Council members not only consider but act upon closing DCPS during severe winter weather conditions for ensuring student safety.

We need your support in making this change happen. Please sign this petition urging our city leaders to prioritize student safety over other considerations during hazardous winter weather conditions.
