Urge Mages and Spike Chunsoft to Release the Original 2002 Ever 17: The Out of Infinity

The Issue

We are a group of passionate and dedicated fans who have been eagerly awaiting the western release of an iconic visual novel: Ever 17: The Out of Infinity, authored by Kotaro Uchikoshi. However, our anticipation is focused not just on any edition, but specifically on the original 2002 version that was localized and brought to us by Hirameki in 2005. This title holds a special place in our hearts, with its vivid storytelling showcasing Uchikoshi's talent and paving the way for his later works, such as the Zero Escape series and AI: The Somnium Files. Unfortunately, the 2002 version is no longer available legally, having gone out of print years ago.

The upcoming global release in March of next year, a remaster of the 2011 remake marketed as the "definitive" edition, regrettably excludes Uchikoshi's original scenario. Instead, it features a script written by an anonymous author, which we believe significantly diminishes the essence of the game. This remake takes substantial liberties with the plot and characterization, altering the iconic story and key moments that made Ever 17 so beloved.

Advertising this 2011 remake as Uchikoshi's creation is misleading and amounts to false advertising. The honorable and respectful course of action would be to remaster and re-release the original 2002 script alongside the 2011 remake and Never 7: The End of Infinity, providing fans with an authentic and enriching experience. This would not only honor Uchikoshi’s authorship but also allow fans—both old and new—to experience the game on modern platforms like Steam and Switch.

We urge Mages and Spike Chunsoft to consider this heartfelt plea and listen to the voices of true fans of Ever 17: The Out of Infinity. Please sign this petition to support the re-release of the original 2002 version of Ever 17, preserving its integrity and legacy for generations to come.
