Hello Supporters,

In the weeks since my last update, Trump and his regime have continued to aggressively attack our democracy. ICE’s leadership is being swiftly replaced with current and former Border Patrol staff. “The reason for the personnel changes wasn’t immediately clear. But they indicate a greater integration of Border Patrol agents in ICE at a time when Customs and Border Protection has been accused of using heavy-handed tactics in its immigration enforcement,” according to a report from the Associated Press.

Members of the media and press, who have highlighted Trump’s agenda against the American people have also faced criticism, including lawsuits, defamation and pressure from the FCC. In September, PBS reported that, “Trump has filed lawsuits against outlets whose coverage he dislikes, threatened to revoke TV broadcast licenses and sought to bend news organizations and social media companies to his will.”

Now, the White House seeks to paint dissent, free speech and assembly, as domestic terrorism, putting organizations that advocate for human rights at risk of punishment from the DOJ and DHS. “As an ACLU senior policy counsel whose work focuses on government surveillance, I have developed a great familiarity with how authoritarian-leaning governments use oppressive tools and tactics to persecute their opposition and instill fear amongst their populations. Accordingly, I was deeply troubled but not the least surprised when, on September 25, President Trump launched the latest salvo in the federal government’s efforts to target Trump’s political opponents, which came in the form of National Security Presidential Memorandum/NSPM-7,” said Chad Marlow, a SPC with ACLU.

In regard to our home, here in Clark County, raids may not be as publicized as Portland or Chicago, but they are ongoing nonetheless. This increasing surge has cultivated fear in both immigrant and citizen communities, apprehension to be present in public spaces, and severe disruption in agricultural operations. In combination with tariffs, labor shortage and the ongoing government shutdown, Nevada residents face food, job and health insecurity.

I urge you to continue sharing this petition and ask you to consider donating to promote it. Gov. Lombardo has announced a special legislative session that could potentially address NV’s film tax credit expansion bill and Lombardo’s crime bill, which has been met with deep concern from civil rights advocates over policies that range from problematic to potentially dangerous for those facing poverty. We must raise our voices, contact our representatives and share calls to action with our friends, family and on social media. We are nearly halfway to 1000 signatures! Thank you so much for your ongoing support.

For the People,

Naomi
