Three years ago, my family faced one of the most challenging times of our lives. Watching a loved one endure suffering from a terminal illness without any legal option to guide them in ending that suffering was agonizing. Opponents often raise concerns about potential abuse or pressure on vulnerable individuals. However, the experiences in states with existing laws have shown that these fears are unfounded. Over 20 years of data reflect that the systems in place work effectively to protect patients, doctors, and families alike, ensuring decisions are made by informed and voluntary consent.

Passing MAID legislation in Pennsylvania would provide the necessary peace of mind for families like mine, knowing that there is a legal path to reduce suffering.
