The Issue

We have been witnessing a distressing transformation in Hueco Tanks State Park over the last decade. The growing population of invasive aoudad has threatened the delicate balance of the park's fragile ecosystem, damaging endemic flora and fauna and putting historic cultural resources at risk. Trampling through the sanctuary, these intruding animals have grossly undermined the public use plan, which exists to protect the park's precious archaeological sites and unique biodiversity.

As faithful patrons of Hueco Tanks State Park, we have diligently adhered to numerous protective measures to safeguard the park's integrity. However, we now find our efforts undermined as we witness the encroachment of this invasive species, unchecked and uncontrolled.

The aoudad's growth in population is a concerning development that the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department needs to address with immediacy and dedication. This park means the world to us, and we cannot stand by and watch the destruction of a place so close to our hearts.

We implore the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to take decisive action against the invasive presence of the aoudad and make a commitment to restore Hueco Tanks State Park to its rightful state of ecological balance. By doing so, the flora, fauna, and historic sites can thrive again, with the park's beauty preserved for generations to come.

This is a calling, a plea for immediate intervention. Please, sign this petition to prompt necessary action to save Hueco Tanks State Park.
