A lady posting on the All About Goole Facebook pages asked if anybody had CCTV of the Dunhill Road - Marcus Street crossroads as her husband had been knocked off his bike by a car which then drove off without leaving details. The husband is apparently sore but not badly hurt which is something to be very thankful for.

A question about the current arrangements for CCTV in Goole prompted a response. We were told that a new firm (in Bridlington) is doing CCTV now and we should relax in the knowledge we are in safe hands. The person became increasingly annoyed when asked questions, and said they were not a councillor, which left people wondering how they could be so confident the public are in safe hands. If they are not a councillor or a member of council staff, how could they have the necessary insights? The comments were later deleted…

The profile picture of the person giving these assurances in a very assertive manner showed somebody wearing a mask which was the full male reproductive system half heartedly standing to attention.

Which left me wondering if this is a metaphor more widely for what the public is told by the councils? And what is the truth about the CCTV cameras in Goole?  I’ll leave you to ponder that.
