Today a large (but not articulated) food delivery lorry was unable to get round the corner of Carter Street and Marcus Street because of the new building that East Riding Council has allowed to be built on the corner right by the entrance to the Victoria Pleasure Grounds. After a good deal of to-ing and fro-ing while an anxious mother with a toddler in a pram waited on the pavement unable to go any further, the lorry managed to reverse back along Carter Street. This is where the Goole Town Deal people want coaches and cars to be accessing the VPG to cater for the greatly increased use and the “hospitality venue” they want to bring about.

Meanwhile news media are reporting that the Chancellor will tell local councils to stop wasting money on consultants. This is ironic given that councils have to employ consultants to approach the government funding begging bowl for projects. This is not least the case with the Town Deals Fund. The VPG consultancy firm have been paid at least £288k to produce the plans for which the VPG is simply not suited. And still there has been no direct contact with those who live round VPG regarding the potential impact on their lives.

There are those who think GTC should get a full refund.
