A reminder of the area the Victoria Pleasure Grounds sits in. This is the main entrance to the grounds. Formerly there were low garages and a concrete area in front of them which meant there was some visibility of the road junction, and room to turn.
East Riding Council gave planning permission for dwellings to be built on the site of the garages. This created a dangerous blind corner and hidden junction - to which the Victoria Pleasure Grounds entrance ads complexity and potential danger. Shortly after East Riding gave the planning permission for the dwellings, they gave planning permission for the Victoria Pleasure Grounds Developments having made the area even less suited to what is planned than it was before. Buses pull up to drop fans off here at football matches. Since the dwellings started to be constructed, turning them has become even more difficult and dangerous.
The consultations have been a largely meaningless sham. The three week planning consultation was opened by East Riding Council at the start of the school summer holidays last year - with very little publicity. There has as of today been no direct communication by either council or the Town Deal Board to residents who live in the area around Victoria Pleasure Grounds about how the plans will affect them.
Caring councils concerned for their residents would have made serious efforts to consult them. The Town Deal is being imposed on residents with a display of consultation of a type that is closer to “democracy” in countries like Russia, China and Iran than the democratic principles that England supposedly aspires to.
Keep signing, keep talking, keep sharing.
