Urge Hampshire County Council to Keep Hartley Wintney and Aldershot Recycling Centres Open

The Issue

As residents of North East Hampshire, we are deeply concerned about the potential closure of our local recycling centres in Hartley Wintney and Aldershot. These closures are part of a proposal by Hampshire County Council (HCC) under its Future Services Consultation.

This issue is personal to us because without these centres, we will certainly see an increase in improper disposal methods. This will result in more fly tipping, littering, pollution and environmental harm.

It will significantly set back the progress that has been made towards environmentally responsible waste management. The direct financial gain from closure will be minimal and the costs of side effects such as policing and cleaning up fly tipping, expanding the remaining centres to cope with increased use and the environmental impact of more and longer car journeys will exceed any direct benefit generated.

Recycling centres play a crucial role in promoting sustainable waste management practices. They provide an accessible location for residents to dispose of their waste responsibly rather than resorting to harmful methods such as fly tipping or littering which can have detrimental effects on our environment.

We urge you not just as council members but as fellow residents who share this beautiful county with us - DO NOT CLOSE EITHER OF THESE CENTRES.

Let's work together towards maintaining our recycling facilities for a cleaner future for all inhabitants of Hampshire.
