Thank you for signing the petition to protect student press freedom at Gretna East. Your support means more than you know, and I want to take a moment to share a few things.

First, I want to be clear about what this petition is and isn't. This isn't about agreeing or disagreeing with any particular article or cartoon. You don't have to share the same views as the student whose work was removed. This is about whether students have the right to cover the news, form opinions, and publish their work without administrators deciding what's acceptable for them. That's not a political question. That's a principle.

Second, the single most helpful thing you can do right now is share this petition with others, especially parents. When parents in the community see what's happening and add their names, it sends a message that the administration can't ignore. A student petition is easy to dismiss. A community petition is not. Share it in a text, post it on your story, mention it at the dinner table. Every conversation matters.

Finally, I want you to know that this is bigger than one cartoon or one article or one school. The students who come after us will inherit whatever precedent we set right now. If we accept that administrators can silence student journalists whenever they're uncomfortable, that becomes the norm. But if we push back, we make it easier for every future student journalist at Gretna East to do their job without fear.

Thank you for standing with us. Keep sharing, keep talking, and don't let this go quiet.

Nicholas Mitchell
