Still no news about Greenwich Council discussing the archive.  Various elections and other constraints have led to constant delays - and its been a year since it was first postponed!

We will keep on trying!

Meanwhile here's news of Greenwich Industrial History Society talks

Greenwich at War, 1939-45

The November talk from Greenwich Industrial History Society is, appropriately for the day after Armistice Day, about Greenwich at War, 1939-1945.

Steve Hunnisett will speak on 12 November 2024 at 19:15 for 19:30 about the effect of World War 2 on the Borough of Greenwich. Book for this free Zoom talk by email us – details below.

Steve, a member of the Guild of Battlefield Guides who has been guiding walks around wartime London for around 15 years (see www.blitzwalkers.co.uk will examine the preparations made for war in the borough – evacuation of schoolchildren, the establishment of the civil defence services, the provision of public shelters for the local population, and so on.

He will try to explode the myth that Britain was totally unprepared for this conflict. He will look at how local industries adapted themselves to wartime production requirements and will also look at the Blitz and its impact on the area and the people.

He will also look at the impact of subsequent air attacks in the shape of the so-called ‘Baby Blitz’ as well as the V-weapons in 1944-45.

Steve was born in Greenwich and comes from a Merchant Navy background. He has a lifelong interest in London and its wartime history.
