We are a community of hardworking Californians, many of whom are retired individuals living on fixed incomes. We find ourselves in an increasingly dire situation where we have to choose between basic necessities like food and paying our escalating Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) bills. It is heartbreaking to see our neighbors sitting in cold, dark homes because they can no longer afford the cost of electricity or heat.

California residents pay some of the highest gas and electric rates in the nation. This financial burden is forcing businesses to shutter their doors and families to sell their homes. The unchecked rate hikes by PG&E, a monopoly with little oversight from the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), are unsustainable for us.

The PUC, whose members are appointed by Governor Newsom - who also receives campaign contributions from PG&E - seems indifferent towards our plight. This perceived conflict of interest only adds salt to our wounds as we struggle just to keep lights on in our homes.

We call upon Governor Newsom and the California Public Utilities Commission not only for relief but for fair treatment. We demand immediate action be taken against these excessive rate hikes that threaten our livelihoods and very survival.
