Every day, countless drivers unknowingly drive through “Healthy School Streets” during restricted hours despite trying to follow all the rules. Why? Because these restrictions don’t appear on Google Maps, the most widely used navigation tool in the world.

These School Streets are meant to protect children and reduce pollution during school drop-off and pick-up times a goal we all support. However, without proper visibility on GPS apps, well-meaning drivers are unfairly penalised. London councils are now making an estimated £31 million a year from these fines, many issued to people who simply didn’t know the restriction existed or couldn’t see clear signage in time.

These are not temporary or minor changes. School Street restrictions are permanent and enforceable, and it’s high time Google Maps reflects that reality. This would:

• Help drivers avoid accidental violations
• Reduce frustration and unfair penalties
• Support the actual goal of safer, healthier school zones

Despite multiple attempts to contact Google about this issue, there’s been no response.
