My name is Sheldon McDougall, AKA Shel…and I have been an animal advocate based in Glynn County GA for over 13 years. During the wee hours on Sunday morning, FB disabled my account. They had accused me of an “Admin violation” when a woman named Ann A. commented under a post about a No Kings demonstration locally. She said she would follow advice given by authorities in FL if surrounded by protesters in her car. FB took this as threatening violence…but I am NOT the person who made the comment! There was no way to communicate that to them, and they say I cannot appeal. 

I work online to help animals and the people who love them at least 8 hours a day…EVERY single day of the year. I live on rural acreage where I care for many animals, and am unable to drive. Therefore FB has provided me with a platform where I have built a large presence and I Admin about 20 groups and pages. I work hard in Glynn and surrounding counties, as well as throughout Georgia. I post lost and found dogs & cats and try to reunite them with their families. I get indigent or homeless pets urgently needing veterinary care to my vet and ask the community to call in donations. I rehome animals that cannot stay where they are, including strays taken in by Good Samaritans during stray hold who were never claimed. I try hard to get death row animals at risk of losing their lives for space - or any animal at the full shelter - into foster or adoptive homes or rescues. I answer questions like where’s the nearest emergency vet, or low-cost spay/neuter clinic, or free microchip clinic. This is my Godgiven mission for the last chapter of my life…and I don’t understand why FB wants to end it. I am accustomed to being restricted on FB because their AI algorithms can’t tell the difference between a backyard breeder spamming to sell unvetted puppies and an animal advocate trying to save precious, innocent lives! Being temporarily unable to share or comment is one thing; losing the ability to honor my sacred mission and losing the presence that took so long to build on both FB and Messenger is something else again!
