Petition updateUrge Edmonton City Council to Revise Bike Lane Policies Impacting HermitageFew observations people need to be aware of

There have been a few events I think people need to be updated on.

I mentioned in my last update about the gal’s vehicle that was hit while parked around 4:30 AM by an impaired driver going down Hermitage Road. I was just talking to a gentleman today. I was telling him about that incident and he asked me if that’s why Hermitage Road was blocked off for so long. I did not know about that one. I guess if you park on the side of the road, which is very close to moving vehicles and your vehicle get hit and a tow truck has to come pick it up. They’ll have no choice but the block traffic off of Hermitage Road to pick up the vehicle.

I also saw a police car with their lights going on east down Hermitage Road, but there was a long lineup of cars ahead of them so they just shut their lights off and continued since they can no longer pass (I assume) vehicles on Hermitage Road.
I sure hope it’s not your family member who has the emergency and needs police or ambulance or fire because there’s no rushing getting into your house if you live in our area.
A few days ago I saw a E bike riding down the middle of the road. which is right next to the bikes which is right next to the sidewalks he didn’t either he drove down the middle of the road with cars following. Now in his defense, the bike lanes are really icy, which brings me to my next point.

I have been told by people who have to park on Hermitage Road. They’re terrified to get in and out of their vehicles not just because of approaching traffic being so close to their cars that they have to make sure no one’s beside them when they get out, but that the bike lines are so icy, they’re scary to get across. And that’s after they go over there 2 foot Windrow of snow between their car, the bike lane and the sidewalks and the house.

I saw a man moving and he lived on Hermitage Road, but because parking by the bike lanes were in use he could not get his vehicle close to the house. He had to park at the end of the street and move everything from his house to the flat deck trailer. Luckily, he was young and shape but I bet that added quite a few hours onto his moving adventure.

Those are just the few new issues that we had mentioned we’re going to be an issue, but nobody really listened.
Again I asked you please share this petition with people who live in the Hermitage area and 40 th street or those who are affected by the bike lanes in the Hermitage area and 40th St.

Just a sidenote. The bullying that’s going on over these bike lanes is ridiculous. in this city if you don’t support them you’re crazy you’re stupid or you don’t understand… I don’t understand when having an opposing opinion on something that negatively impacts your community was something to bully a person over. People aren’t coming to our neighbourhood to see what’s going on. They just like bike lanes and think they should have them everywhere. What I’m trying to do is show when you don’t have cyclist in your neighbourhood but you need street parking. This really isn’t the best idea or the safest way to deal with these issues. Our road has been narrowed dramatically for vehicles. More room is given to pedestrians and cyclist. it’s unfortunate that people don’t educate themselves by visiting the areas and seeing how it actually impacts them and then maybe asking themselves this question,  would I want to live there with these obstructions affecting my daily life?

I  truly appreciate everybody who has read my petition and I just wanna wish you all the best in the new year… whether your support bike lanes or not.
happy new years!
