Hey everyone,

Sorry it's been so quiet here. I've emailed Fair Oak & Horton Heath Parish, and got the following response:

,,,

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your email, I have discussed this with our clerk, and we will make sure our Borough Councillors; Michelle Marsh, Nick Couldrey and Steve Broomfield receive a copy of your petition.

In addition, you are more than welcome to address the Parish Council during the public participation section of our next meeting if you think this would be helpful. Two of the Borough Councillors sit on our Parish Council.

Below are a couple of observations which you may wish to note:

Not all the hedges/shrubs will come under Eastleigh Borough Council’s remit - some hedges/shrubs may be the responsibility of individual landowners and others, Hampshire County Council.
EBC won’t cut hedges/shrubs (unless there is imminent danger) during bird nesting season (March–August), as this would breach the Wildlife and Countryside Act.

I hope this is helpful.

Best Regards,

With regards to the birds, I'm fairly sure the Act mentions allowances for rights of ways but I've not found the exact reference to it. As always, we're not asking for ALL the green to be cut down, just to make it possible to move around and use the paths/roads safely.

Furthermore, I also received a comment from Michelle Marsh on Facebook with the following:

,,,

Is there a specific road or pavement which is obscuring visibility? I was aware the grass is long but not that visibility was being obscured. Please can you email details to Michelle.marsh@eastleigh.gov.uk and I will raise it as an urgent case. If you add photos those will be helpful.

,,,

Another member kindly pointed out Crispin Close and I mentioned the Meadowsweet Way/Burnetts Lane cross-roads by name, but I don't really have the capacity to go shrub photo hunting.

I'm curious to see if there will be any improvement in the coming days as no-mow-May comes to a close.

Feel free to reach out if you have any ideas on how to progress this further! Thanks.
