The Chargers have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and for many of us, they symbolized the spirit and passion of San Diego. Since 1984, the Spanos family has owned the Chargers, but under Dean Spanos's leadership, it's been a series of disappointments and lost opportunities. Our beloved team has stagnated with a troubling record—328 wins against 348 losses—and despite numerous chances, we have never clinched a Super Bowl victory. For a franchise with such spirited fans, this lack of success is heart-wrenching.
The Spanos family famously fired Marty Schottenheimer after an incredible 14-2 season. This decision still echoes in our memories as a move that hindered the team’s potential. Furthermore, the Chargers have only won the AFC West six times in 42 years, a meager 14% success rate. Dean Spanos's leadership has failed to deliver the results that fans have yearned for countless seasons.
The heartbreaking move from San Diego to Los Angeles only compounded the disillusionment. Our cherished team moved cities, leaving a city that had been home for so many loyal fans. Worse, in Los Angeles, the Chargers have no stadium to call their own, renting Sofi for a mere $1 per year.
In the 2022 playoffs, we watched in dismay as the Chargers lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars after squandering a commanding 27-0 lead. This collapse was not just a game lost—it was an emblem of missed potential and a leadership structure that failed to make the right calls when it mattered most.
