Urge Costco to Open in Tacoma, WA, Replacing Fred Meyer

The Issue

I stopped shopping at Fred Meyer on Pacific Avenue in Tacoma, WA, because of the ongoing crime, rampant shoplifting, and the visible drug activities happening around the store. It became a place where I didn’t feel safe while shopping for my family’s essentials. With the imminent closure of Fred Meyer, there is a significant gap that needs a solution—one that can offer the same variety of food, clothing, household supplies, and gasoline that Fred Meyer did, but in a safer environment.

I believe that opening a Costco at this location could be the perfect solution. The existing parking lot is spacious enough, and its membership-based model has proven effective in keeping shoplifting rates considerably lower, addressing one of the key reasons why Fred Meyer is closing down. A new Costco would provide Tacoma residents access to affordable products and services, filling the void left by Fred Meyer’s departure.

Furthermore, our current Costco is plagued with challenges: its parking lot is too small, making it difficult to find parking, especially during peak hours. The traffic congestion near the major intersections surrounding it is notorious, contributing to a stressful shopping experience. Relocating or opening another Costco on Pacific Avenue could alleviate these issues, offering a more convenient and accessible option for local residents.

Tacoma deserves a safe and reliable retail option that promotes community well-being and economic stability. I urge Costco to consider this opportunity to expand their presence and service in our community. Let’s transform the vacant Fred Meyer space into a thriving Costco store, ensuring we have a shopping destination that feels safe, accessible, and meets our needs.

Sign this petition to support the opening of a new Costco on Pacific Avenue in Tacoma, WA. Together, we can encourage a decision that benefits our entire community.
