Representing a significant immigrant community in Northwest Georgia, I witness the daily struggles and triumphs of individuals who have come to this country seeking a better life. Through my work as a state representative, I have seen firsthand how immigrants contribute positively to our society, yet are often hindered by the complexities and inadequacies of the current immigration system.

With a large immigrant population that looks to me to amplify their voices, it's clear that we need an immigration system that is fair, compassionate, and workable. Our current policies fail to secure the borders effectively, drive out those who pose real threats due to criminal activities, and offer no realistic pathway for those who have integrated into our communities and abide by our laws to become permanent residents.

We need Congress to take immediate action to ensure a secure border that effectively prevents unauthorized entry while strengthening the removal of hardened criminals who remain in the country illegally. Importantly, a system that recognizes the contributions of upstanding members of society already here, granting them a pathway to permanent residency, must be implemented.

The streamlining of our immigration process is long overdue. Simplified and efficient procedures are necessary to ensure that individuals seeking to contribute positively to America and embrace our values can do so without the undue burdens that currently mar the process.
