Fellow Citizens,
Our presence at a City Council last week was heard! Thanks to all who came to share their stories and email their thoughts to Council. Over 2.5 hours of public comments (3 minutes at a time) were given, which is the longest public comment session ever held in 30 years! The stories shared were intelligent, curious, thoughtful, and inspiring, and spoke to the great passion our community has.
It is encouraging to see the local paper change their editorial stance this week.
We must keep the momentum going to ensure Phase 2.0 is allowed to proceed as had been approved by prior council. City Council is convening at a special meeting this Thursday, May 29 at 5:30 to re-evaluate their position. No doubt opponents will not lay idly by, and we could use your support to provide your stories and support and to see this vision through! We believe public comment is on the agenda.
As you know, phase 2.0 planned to change the layout of 4th & 5th streets south of Grand Ave to look just like 7th street (between Grand Ave and Ute), with a few enhancements.
Consider tips on the image when considering your thoughts to share, and make sure to come early and sign up for comment. In person is most impactful, but if you cannot make it, please continue to email council@gjcity.org to let them know this issue matters to you.
In Solidarity,
The Grand Valley Streets Alliance
