For 30 years, I have served as the Athletic Director of a rural public school district in Pennsylvania. Over these decades, I've witnessed firsthand the disparity in representation at state finals across all sports under the jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA). This imbalance between public and private schools has been a contentious issue that has yet to be adequately addressed.

The time for change is now. House Bill 1983 offers an opportunity for member schools of the PIAA to vote on this critical matter, potentially leading us towards fairer interscholastic athletics. However, this bill is currently stalled within our PA House of Representatives Education Committee.

We call upon Chairman Peter Schweyer to take decisive action by advancing H.B. 1983 out of committee and onto the House floor for a vote. By doing so, he can help ensure that every school—public or private—has an equal chance at success in our state's athletic competitions.
