Urge Cedar Mountain School Board To Say NO To Subcontracting Custodians

Urge Cedar Mountain School Board To Say NO To Subcontracting Custodians
The Issue
Help custodians keep their positions @ Cedar Mountain Schools!! Please Share and Sign This Petition!!! Unfortunately the newspaper article titled (Cedar Mountain School Board approves subcontracting for custodial services) on 3/25/2025 was misleading.
At that time the board ONLY approved getting bids from companies.
The Cedar Mountain School Board Will Decide Whether Or Not To Subcontract Custodians On April, 16th 2025.
Urge Cedar Mountain School District To Say NO To Subcontracting Custodians!!
I am the head custodian at Cedar Mountain Elementary School, and I have seen firsthand the responsibility and care we take in our work. Our department is essential to the smooth operation of our school, with each of us playing a critical role in maintaining a safe, clean environment for our students. The dissolution of our positions through subcontracting would not only mean losing our job security but could also lead to a decrease in the quality of cleanliness and maintenance services.
Previously, Cedar Mountain had made an attempt to subcontract custodial services which unfortunately did not work out. It led to an array of problems including inconsistency in service, high turnover and increased costs, a mistake we should learn from, not repeat.
The district's choice to outsource custodial jobs would lead to a loss of positions that directly support student success. As custodial staff, we are more than just cleaning staff. We are a part of the local community, aware of the safety protocols, and have established relationships with the students, staff, and families.
Moreover, the policy could trigger unfavorable ripple effects, including concerns over quality control, lower staff morale, and potential lapses in safety protocols. Notably, the National Education Association reports that subcontracting often leads to a decline in service quality whilst also jeopardizing employee rights and conditions.
In light of these potential issues, I implore the Cedar Mountain school district and the broader community to consider the wider impact of such “cost-cutting” measures and not to subcontract custodians. Your support could preserve jobs and keep our school community safe, stable, and familiar. Please sign this petition today.
