As a concerned Canadian citizen, I am increasingly anxious about the geopolitical environment. This unease is chiefly fueled by the growing threat of annexation from our neighbor, the United States. Our nation's independence and sovereignty are something I cherish, and I am convinced that one way to safeguard these values is for Canada to become a member of the European Union (EU).

Historically, the EU has been a bastion against unwarranted territorial annexation, as reflected in Article 49 of the Lisbon Treaty which upholds the principle of voluntary and sovereign decision-making for any state applying to become a member. Moreover, with 27 member states, the EU is a powerful political entity that can provide a protective shield against any form of external threat or coercion.

Besides enhancing our national security, joining the EU would also provide an economic boost to Canada. 

In the interest of national security, economic prosperity and ensuring the preservation of our beloved country's independence, I strongly urge the Canadian federal government to consider seeking membership in the European Union.
