I am deeply moved by the plight of the Haitian people, who are often overlooked by the global community.

Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. The country has been ravaged by political instability, gang warfare, natural disasters, disease outbreaks and is on the verge of civil war. These conditions have forced many Haitians to live in constant fear for their lives and without hope for the future.  

Despite these dire circumstances, there is a lack of international willingness to provide a safe haven for these individuals. This is where Canada can step in. Known globally as a country that values human rights and diversity, Canada has both an opportunity and responsibility to help.

We are petitioning the Canadian government to open an immediate refugee program specifically designed for Haitians seeking asylum from their current conditions or family reunification. Furthermore, we urge them to facilitate efforts that will allow Haitians residing in the Caribbean nation to be brought to Canada to live in peace.

By doing so, not only will Canada be providing much-needed relief for those living in fear but also reinforcing its commitment towards upholding human rights globally.
