Dear all
Thanks very much for signing the petition and supporting the call for a ceasefire vote in Camden. We thought we should let you know that
1 - We were happy to find that a Green councillor and a Labour councillor together wrote a ceasefire motion to go to the Council on 29th Jan. Well done!
2 - Then the Labour councillor was pressured by the local Labour Party not to support a ceasefire motion. Shame on that party.
3 - We approached Lib Dems who have a policy at national level that there should be a ceasefire. They said they believe that at local level supporting a motion for ceasefire would be divisive (though the bombs are still falling). Shame on that local party.
4. Groups all over the country are asking their councils to stand for a ceasefire - some have and some haven't. As a Bristol resident said to her council, to have a position of influence at this point and refusing to use it to pressure for a ceasefire means you are choosing to stand by when children are being killed and Gaza is being destroyed - shame on those who do that.
We will therefore be demonstrating outside the Council (Judd St) at 6.30 on Monday 29th January, still calling for a ceasefire vote.
