FACTS -
Early on Shabbat morning on October 7, during the holiday of Shmini Atzeret/Simchat Torah when Jews are supposed to rejoice, Hamas terrorists launched a coordinated air and land attack on Israeli civilians, soldiers, villages, and cities. As of Wednesday morning, more than 1,200 Israelis had been murdered in these attacks, with that number likely to rise. 

The photos and video images of bloody and mutilated bodies are gruesome and horrific. Thousands of Israelis are still hospitalized with wounds. And 150 men, women, and children — including Israeli women and children as well as American citizens — were violently taken hostage and are being held in captivity by terrorists in Gaza. Hamas is now threatening to execute these hostages one-by-one in public videos on TV and social media. This is the worst attack on Israel or the Jewish people in 50 years, and we are shocked and heartbroken at the news of Jews being massacred in the Jewish homeland. The global Hillel movement is united with the Israeli people, as it responds to this horrific attack.

On Sunday, Israel officially declared war against Hamas, and the prospect of a war on multiple front looms as a possibility with the IDF and Hezbollah exchanging rocket fire on Israel’s northern border on Wednesday..
