Urge Bastrop Police Jury to Build an Animal Shelter (Morehouse Parish Residents only!!!)
The Issue
I've always found myself taking in stray animals, doing my part and fostering with different rescue groups. Just like so many others in Bastrop, LA, the kindness and compassion for these animals are evident. However, it's clear that the time has come for the local authorities, especially our police jury, to step up to the plate.
In Bastrop, numerous stray animals roam our streets daily, suffering from lack of shelter, food, and medical care. The absence of a dedicated animal shelter exacerbates the problem, putting a strain on individuals and small non-profits who, despite their noble efforts, can't meet the overwhelming needs alone.
Studies indicate that establishing local animal shelters significantly reduces the number of homeless pets and incidents of animal cruelty (ASPCA, 2021). This initiative wouldn’t just rescue animals; it could also provide employment opportunities and volunteer programs, bolstering community engagement.
I propose that the Bastrop Police Jury prioritizes the construction of an animal shelter, offering a safe haven for these neglected animals. Funding could be secured through grants, community fundraisers, and partnerships with non-profit organizations committed to animal welfare. By setting a clear plan, involving public consultation, and committing to real action, this shelter can become a beacon of hope.
I'm calling on my fellow Bastrop residents to join me in urging the police jury to take responsibility and commit to building a community animal shelter. Together, we can make Bastrop a more compassionate and caring place for all its inhabitants—human and animal alike. Please sign this petition to push for the change our community desperately needs.
