Upper Siang Dam: Support India's Silent Shield Against China's Water Threat

The Issue

China has begun construction of the Yarlung Zangbo Dam, just before the river enters Arunachal Pradesh and becomes the Brahmaputra. With a massive 60 GW capacity, it’s poised to be the world’s most powerful dam — and it sits right above India’s Northeast. The threat is real: China can control, divert, or flood water into Indian territory at will.

To counter this, the Indian government proposed the Upper Siang Dam in 2021, but since then, the project has remained stuck — caught between bureaucratic delays and environmental opposition. While the intention to act exists, the speed and scale of our response simply doesn’t match the urgency of the threat.

This petition is a direct appeal to the government — and a sincere urge to environmentalists:

Yes, protecting nature matters. But what’s at stake here is far bigger — national security, sovereignty, and the future of millions.

The danger lies not only in what China is building — but in how slowly we choose to respond.

🛑 We, the concerned citizens of India, demand:

1) Immediate clearance and execution of the Upper Siang Dam.

2) A public timeline and transparency around project progress.

3) A balanced approach that includes environmental mitigation — but not environmental delay.
