Uphold secularism in the Indian Constitution

Uphold secularism in the Indian Constitution
The Issue
I am an Indian citizen by birth, and my heart swells with pride when I think of the values that form the foundation of our great nation. One of the most significant of these values is secularism. It is not just a word enshrined in our Constitution, but the very soul that binds us all as Indians, harmoniously blending our diverse cultures, religions, and traditions.
Our Constitution guarantees the right to freedom of religion, a fundamental right derived from its secular foundation. It promises us that the state shall have no religion of its own and assures each citizen the right to practice, profess, and propagate their own religion on an equal footing. This principle of secularism ensures that no individual is discriminated against on the grounds of religion, fostering mutual respect and equality among all Indians.
The Supreme Court of India has emphatically declared that the principle of secularism is so fundamentally woven into the fabric of our Constitution that it cannot be amended. This ruling serves as a steadfast guardian of our freedoms and a reminder of our shared values.
However, there are growing concerns and challenges threatening this secular fabric. Rising communal tensions, sectarian violence, and policies that appear to favour one religion over others jeopardize the very core of our national identity. We must stand united to safeguard the secular character that defines us.
This petition calls upon the Indian Government to uphold and enforce secularism as the basic fundamental principle of the Indian Constitution. Our leaders need to implement policies that reinforce rather than undermine our constitutional commitment to equality and religious neutrality.
We cannot afford to remain silent spectators while the secular ethos of our country is at stake. Join me in urging the government to take decisive action to protect our secular legacy and ensure peace and unity among all citizens.
Stand with me in preserving the secular fabric of India and protecting the rights and freedoms of every Indian. Sign this petition today, for an India that remains true to its Constitutional values and the dreams of its founders.
