Upgrade University Heights Trash Pickup

The Issue

To the University Heights City Council,

We, the undersigned residents of University Heights, are petitioning for an upgrade to our current trash pickup system. The existing system is outdated, inefficient, and poses several problems that negatively impact our community.

Current Issues:
1. Inconsistent Collection: Residents have mismatched cans of various shapes and sizes, leading to inconsistent collection.
2. Obstructed Pickups: Garbage collectors refuse to pick up cans if vehicles are in the driveway.
3. Uncollected Items: Un-bagged items are not collected, leading to overflow and mess.
4. Animal Interference: Animals easily access and tear apart the garbage, creating unsanitary conditions.
5. Dangerous Driving: Small cart drivers operate recklessly, often flying in and out of driveways, nearly hitting cars and people.

Proposed Solution:
We propose upgrading our trash pickup system to match the modernized systems in our neighboring cities, such as Beachwood and Cleveland Heights. This involves:
1. Standardized 90-Gallon Cans: Issuing standardized 90-gallon cans to each household.
2. Automated Trucks: Utilizing large automated trucks with arms that lift and empty the cans.

Benefits:
Upgrading to a modernized trash collection system will bring numerous benefits:
- Cost Efficiency: Reduced labor costs due to automated collection.
- Increased Property Values: A cleaner and more appealing neighborhood can boost property values.
- Attract New Residents: Improved city image and services will attract new homeowners and businesses.
- Health and Safety: Reduced health hazards and safer streets without reckless driving behavior.
- Environmental Impact: Decreased litter and better waste management practices.

This investment in our city’s infrastructure is a win-win solution, ensuring long-term benefits for all residents and promoting the growth and prosperity of University Heights. By signing this petition, you are advocating for a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant city. Together, we can make University Heights the best it can be.

Sincerely,

The Community Members of University Heights
