Petition updateUpgrade Queen's Park North Play AreaTimeline for Playpark Reopening

I've just had a very productive meeting with Glasgow City Council and Play Scotland. I've been advised by the council that contractors are due to begin work on repairing the play surfaces on the 27th June.

Once this is completed, blacksmiths will then repair the existing play equipment allowing the park to be reopened. Unfortunately this may be subject to supply issues of parts - fingers crossed this won't hold it up for too long.

Both myself and the representative from Play Scotland pressed the need to have it reopened as quickly as possible due to the summer holidays beginning next week. I reiterated how important this park is to families in The Southside.

I'm also aware that councillors have been piling the pressure on to get this moving - there was quite a bit of indifference when we began this campaign so all the emails you sent to complain have definitely moved it to the top of the agenda.

As for redevelopment, I'm delighted to say the council are working towards a full reworking of the park in 2023, hopefully with a budget of £130,000. This is not a done deal however, we need cooperation from Area Partnerships and councillors to get this over the line.

Finally, thanks to all the kids and parents who made it down to our protest despite the howling wind and rain, and to Glasgow Times for putting us in the news again!

Sean
