Friends, we have had a success.

We (you!) opposed Atrium Health’s plans to demolish ten homes on Lockland Avenue in the Ardmore neighborhood.  As of late June, following a meeting with community activists, Atrium agreed to explore options for renovation, rather than demolition.

Our arguments were:

• With an ongoing housing shortage, it is foolish to reduce housing availability.
• We favor having the homes sold so that they can be converted to affordable housing, preferably for hospital employees.  This has been done by other large medical centers.  
• Neglecting and then bulldozing houses may be one way to expand Atrium’s space, but it is harmful to our neighborhood, our sense of community, and our property values.

As we move forward, we will continue to dialogue with Atrium.  Please support the efforts of the Ardmore Neighborhood Association and Preservation Forsyth to protect and renovate these 10 homes.
