The Issue

Appose Gondola Project (2025-MOD-55(SF))

Please note, the money that is donated doesn't go beyond change.org, so there is no need to donate here.

This application has many characteristics of an amusement park and tourist attraction that should be classified as commercial use and not accessory to agriculture. The following are the major changes in this CUP modification that shall trigger a new CUP application and are large concerns to the surrounding North  Shore community.

Kaukonahua Ranch, LLC has submitted an application for a Minor Modification to the CUP (Minor) for agribusiness activities. These changes have a large impact on the environment and community.

CUP information can be found: https://www.honolulu.gov/dpp/public-input/ (select the site using the map)

Please send in opposition to DPP Honolulu by October 23rd. Sending the letter directly to DPP will have a bigger impact than signing this petition. Pease send your own letter or use the following draft and include your information.

Letter for DPP in Opposition

Attention DPP Honolulu  Shelby Frangk  email:  shelby.frangk@honolulu.gov

·  Expansion of Project Area: The project now includes an additional 6.9 acres and new tax parcels not covered under the original 2019CUP-18.

·  Forestry & Agroforestry Removal: The developer seeks to eliminate 559.5 acres of forestry and all 322 acres of agroforestry, removing over 500k trees and shrubs.

·  Gondola Relocation: The gondola route has been shifted closer to neighboring properties, impacting view planes of sacred Mount Kaʻala.

·  Sewer Infrastructure & Leach Field: Plans include trenching through sensitive areas and installing a 50+k sf leach field near Kaukonahua Stream, raising concerns about pollution and archaeological disruption.

·  Commercial Expansion: New buildings, a 5,000 sq. ft. restaurant, and a 3,800 sq. ft. gondola warehouse are proposed—uses that may not qualify as accessory to agriculture.

·  Increased Gondola Capacity: Gondola cars increased from 22 to 33, a 50% jump.

·  Excavation into Mount Kaʻala: Plans include a 40-foot deep excavation into the summit area, considered sacred by Native Hawaiians.

·  No Community Engagement: No public consultation was conducted for these revisions, despite their scale.
